Weight and Why It’s Not the Only Important Number

Updated: Sep 19, 2019

Weight. Pounds. Kilograms.

The scale. We weigh in at doctors visits. We weigh ourselves in the quiet privacy of our bathrooms. In the wee hours of morning, no clothes on, and not a drop of water in our system yet to get the lowest possible number on that scale...we climb on and hold our breath. Am I right?

We focus on our weight and that number, or maybe we ignore it altogether. Many of us use that number to celebrate a “victory” in weight loss or allow it to batter our self esteem if it has crept up and count it as a “devastating loss” or “failure.”

We fixate. We reward, and we punish. I realize this mentality does not reside with everyone. However, I know so many who are plagued with these thoughts and habits, and trust me, Friends, I can relate.

As I try to learn and grow, I often find myself asking, “Does this thought serve you?” More and more, I find that the answer is no. As I work to serve others as a motivator, cheerleader, and educator, I find myself digging deep to get to the root of this fixation and to

focus on overall health.

Of course, weight is an important factor in the picture of our overall health. The deeper I dig, and the more I release punishing thoughts that no longer serve, the more I find other essential elements of health. There is so much more.

Let’s talk about why weight shouldn't always take front and center stage in our conversations about holistic health.
